After 40, maintaining muscle mass and managing body fat become essential for long-term health. But many programs are designed for younger bodies and can lead to joint stress or burnout.
This program was designed specifically for the 40+ body. It selects joint-friendly movements while still providing the challenge needed to build muscle and burn fat.
Weekly exercise variations keep workouts engaging so you never feel stuck doing the same routine. Progressive intensity ensures you keep improving week after week.
The goal is not just weight loss. True recomposition means building muscle while losing fat, creating a stronger, healthier body that serves you for decades to come.
This program runs for 5 weeks with 3 training days per week. Each week introduces new exercise variations to keep your body adapting.
All intensity in this program is guided by RPE (Rate of Perceived Exertion), a simple 1-10 scale that measures how hard a set feels. RPE 6 means you could do 4 more reps. RPE 7 means you could do 2-3 more reps. RPE 8 means you could do 1-2 more reps. RPE 9 means you could do 1 more rep. This approach lets you auto-regulate based on how you feel each day.
Week 1 establishes your foundation. You will learn goblet squats, dumbbell rows, push-ups, and other fundamental patterns while focusing on movement quality.
Week 2 introduces unilateral training. Single-leg and single-arm exercises like split squats and one-arm rows build balance and strengthen your core connection.
Week 3 adds power elements. Kettlebell swings and explosive movements activate your metabolism and challenge your body in new ways.
Week 4 increases intensity. Compound exercises like front squats and Romanian deadlifts are loaded heavier with increased volume.
Week 5 is your peak performance week. Supersets and high-intensity finishers bring everything together for a strong finish.
This program combines strength training with metabolic finishers to build muscle while burning fat for true recomposition results.
All exercise intensity is guided by RPE (Rate of Perceived Exertion). RPE 7 means you could do 2 to 3 more reps. RPE 8 means you could do 1 to 2 more reps. You do not need to train to failure to see results.
Each week introduces slight exercise variations to provide new stimulus. Compare your progress to the previous week and notice how you are getting stronger.
The metabolic finishers at the end of each session elevate your heart rate to maximize calorie burn. If you need more rest, take it. Consistency matters most.

Hey, I'm Coach Nolan!
I specialize in functional training, mobility, and circuit work. My programs are designed to improve how your body moves in real life—building strength that translates to everyday activities while keeping your joints healthy and mobile. Whether it's core development, movement quality, or sustainable fitness, I'm here to help you move better at any age.
My philosophy is simple: move well before you move heavy. Quality always comes before quantity. I break down every movement step-by-step, focusing on proper form, controlled breathing, and smooth transitions. We build a strong foundation first, then layer on intensity. Whether it's Tabata intervals, core circuits, or functional strength work, the goal is always the same: move better, feel better, live better.
Fitness is a journey, not a race. I believe in steady, sustainable progress—celebrating small wins along the way rather than chasing dramatic transformations. There's no pressure here, just consistent encouragement. When you focus on form instead of speed, when you breathe through the challenge instead of fighting it, that's when real change happens. Stay with me, trust the process, and know that you're doing great—even on the hard days.
